Hear ye! Hear ye! The Edsel & Eleanor Ford House invites all little lords and ladies of the realm to the Fairy Tale Festival on June 24!

The enchanting Ford House gardens and grounds will be transformed into Camelot, as the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table comes to life through music, magic shows, theater, activities, games, storytelling, crafts and more!

Tickets are on sale now!

Admission: $12 in advance on the website; $15 on site day of; children under 2 are free. The event is from 10 AM-2 PM, with last entry at 1:30 PM.

Your little ones will be amazed by Merlin’s Magic Show, laugh with Cirque Amongus court jesters, and mix and mingle with costumed lords, ladies, knights and jesters. They can also see if they are the chosen one and try to pull the Excalibur sword from the stone!

Put on your best frock and shine up your shield — costumes are welcome at this fun family day out.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Save time and money! Add a Meal Deal ticket (includes a hot dog, chips and a bottle of water) for $5. The same meal will cost $7 on site.

Parking is free in the lot across Lake Shore Road from the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House. There will be no shuttles on the grounds during Fairy Tale Festival. Strollers are allowed, but please note there are some uneven pathways throughout the gardens.

The Fairy Tale Festival will be held rain or shine. If severe weather necessitates a cancellation because of dangerous conditions, we will notify ticket-holders via email, our website and Facebook page. No outside food or beverages, please.

Cranbrook Institute of Science is hosting a series of activities, displays and lectures in observance of Asteroid Day, a global movement established to heighten awareness of the potential threat to humanity posed by asteroid impacts.

On-going 1 to 4pm Inspect and handle genuine meteorites from around the world, asteroid impact glass (tektites – moldavites, indochinites and Libyan desert glass), shatter cones and other impact deposits from the institute’s extensive education collection – the largest in Michi¬gan; and learn to tell meteorites from meteor-wrongs and make a take-away asteroid model from modelling clay.

2pm lecture by Institute Curator of Meteorites John Zawiskie. Still the Crater of Doom - an update on the impact theory for dinosaur extinction, including a display of the impact fall out layer collected from southern Colorado and the present day asteroid threat to humanity.

3pm tour of temporary "Tutankhamen and Rocks from Space" exhibit, focusing on the use of meteoric iron and Libyan Desert Glass by the ancient Egyptians; and other components from our permanent meteorite exhibit dealing with historic asteroid impacts in Egypt (Kamil Crater), Russia (Tunguska, Chelyabinsk and Sikhote Alin); several meteorites that have fallen in Michigan and Canada; and the Sud¬bury impact shatter cones and base surge deposits, recently collected near Marquette, Michigan.

The theme is further enhanced by planetarium shows and visiting our cutting edge Solar Observatory (weather permitting).

All Asteroid Day lectures and activities are free with admission, planetarium requires separate fee.

You are invited to the 2017 Blackrock Medieval Fest at The Olde World Village, and don't forget to invite your friends. We have a pre show that starts at 9:45 and we open the gates at 10am and run through 6pm on Saturdays & Sundays, from July 8th through August 6th, rain or shine! Please remember, there is NO outside food or drink of any kind or pets allowed on the festival grounds. Come join us for jousting, live steel combat, 6 stages of live entertainment, live music, fresh, hot food and cold beverages and lots of vendors to shop from with a wide variety of things to enjoy! General admission is only $10 at the gate, and children 12 & under are free! We can't wait to see you there! Huzzah!!
