What is it? Ship burning, fire dancing, spear throwing, sword fighting, kid’s quest, hammer toss, music, beekeeping, mead drinking, arrow shooting, friend making, winter-loving, helmet wearing, hands-on adventure! It’s the Nordic Fire Festival’s second year of ashy, flamey fun.

What is it? The GLCC is a comic, toy and collectible event that runs annually. Events include a free-play arcade, free board gaming, a magic card tournament and Tim Thurmond, the Balloon Sculptor (and friend of Motor City Geek!). There’s a long guest list, but some of the highlights are Nicholas Hammond, (Voice of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man 1977-1979), Jim Shooter (Previous editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics) and Paul Soles (Voice of The Amazing Spider-Man, television cartoon from 1967 to 1970, and the voice of Hermey the Elf in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, 1964).

What is it? This semi-formal event benefits Gabriel Hall and Marche du Nain Rouge. Your ticket gets you authentic New Orleans cuisine from Gabriel Hall, live entertainment, and access to a silent auction. There will be a cash bar on site to really get into the Mardi Gras spirit.

What is it? This event located at the beautiful Cranbrook Institute of Science explores the science of sex, love and attraction just in time for Valentines Day. There’s a whole list of entertaining events including a paleontologist going over the workings of prehistoric sex, a valentine making station, and a clinical psychologist discussing her recipe for ecstasy. There will be a selection of appetizers available for sale and all heart merchandise in the Science Shop will be 20% off.

What is it? Cupid’s Undie Run is a mile(ish) run in your bedroom-best on Valentine’s weekend. All proceeds go to benefit The Children’s Tumor Foundation and neurofibromatosis research. These runs take place in cities all over the country. Why run in your underwear? They have a really good answer for that. Because people with NF can’t cover up their tumors. They can’t put clothes on to feel more comfortable, so why should we? The pictures look like it’s a blast and it’s for a great cause.
