22nd Annual Motor City Tattoo Expo

Motor City Tattoo Expo took place the weekend of March 3rd-5th and Motor City Geek was lucky enough to check it out. Even though MCG has been before, this was my first time going. I might now work in a “cool” industry (romance writers have all the fun) I come from a very square accounting background and the entire concept of a tattoo expo was rather foreign to me.

Ypsilanti Comic Con Recap

This weekend Motor City Geek was on site at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church for Ypsilanti Comic Con hosted by yourcomiccon.com.

If you enjoy shopping for comic books, art, trinkets of all sorts or simply chatting with fellow enthusiasts, Ypsilanti Comic-Con was the place to be.  Whether you were looking for Batman Adventures #12 or a $1 comics to fill holes in your collection, it could be found.  There were extremely talented artists selling beautiful pictures, trinkets, and even Perler Bead mosaics.

PO Studios had some fantastic art and was even doing free sketches for kids. Another great artist in attendance was Victoria Dayen of Mspugluver’s Art. Of the people showcasing their talents at Ypsilanti Comic Con one of the neatest had to be Asher Shelton who was selling comic books of his own creation, a dream many have but few ever realize.

For you manga fans out there Shining Otaku Comics had something just for you.

While Comic Con’s specialize in fun and games, there’s also an opportunity to support a great cause.  Drawing for a Cure was in attendance, they are a group of artists who got together to fight against cancer, a cause we can all get behind.

Tra’cor Clan – Mandalorian Mercs of Michigan were not to be outdone as they also were in attendance.

Motor City Geek became part of the fun when we were asked to join the judge’s panel for the Cosplay Contest.  With so many unique and creative costumes, it was difficult to choose a winner.  We encourage you to see them for yourself, not easy huh?

On a personal level, I have to say that Conventions like this are among my favorites.  They are a great opportunity to meet local artists as well as fellow Comic and Pop Culture enthusiasts.  It’s a joy watching families and friends share their interests with one another.  Parent’s who’ve grown up loving comic culture are able to share it with their children.  Children who fell in love with it organically share it with their family and friends.  The togetherness that events like Ypsilanti Comic Con brings is the magic that makes them so enjoyable to attend.

Here’s a video recap of the event by ToadenK! Click here for more of his videos.

Marche du Nain Rouge 2017 Photos!

Wet and rainy and some of the most fun I have had in a while. The Marche du Nain Rouge took place Sunday as the citizens of Detroit drove away the Nain. Here’s everyone I saw. This felt like a walking Theatre Bizarre, which is incredible. A huge shout out to Mallory Crowe for helping make these pictures possible. Like us on Facebook if you haven’t already. Thanks to the event organizers for putting this on.
